FUTURE YOUTH

Do you have a heart to serve the younger generation? Do you want to develop skills in children’s and youth work? The Future Youth course is a great way to grow in your ministry. And it's free!

Who is it for?

Future Youth (FY), the new strand of the Ministry Experience Scheme (MES), is an opportunity for 18s-30s to spend a year growing in young people and children’s ministry through ministry placements, training and mentoring.

What is involved?

FY participants test God’s calling on their lives by pursuing ministry in a safe and supportive environment and receiving training through a nationally run course (Aurora). All placements will provide ministry opportunities across a range of ages and contexts.

How much does it cost?

The whole year is free to do with accommodation and expenses covered.

How do I sign up?

There are opportunities available across the Church of England. To find out more, please visit our map page, the map pins will tell you if a diocese is offering MES and/or FY placements. Rest assured that you don't need to be living in the diocese that is running the course- everyone is welcome!

By being part of Future Youth, you would be standing as an advocate for young people and children. It is a chance to actively invest actively into the growth of the church, and your own personal journey.

FY is a chance for young people to be championed and for churches to be grown. Youth and children’s work can sometimes be made to feel like the smallest cog in the machine – and yet it lays the groundwork for the future of the church as well as bringing life and vibrancy to church congregations today.

First launched in September 2023 with 11 participants across 6 diocesan schemes there are now double the number of opportunities and placement spaces from September 2025.

Future Youth is part of the Church of England’s plans to develop and support 30,000 leaders of mission with children, young people and families by 2030 (30Kproject)

“A highlight was taking some of our teaching about Lego play back to my children’s group and seeing how they adapted it for themselves. I could see how God had worked through me to the kids which was great.”

"I love being a support for young people, being patient with them even when they go wrong, being somewhere safe for them."
