The environment and climate change

We believe that responding to climate change is an essential part of our responsibility to safeguard God's creation. Our environmental campaign exists to enable the whole church to address - in faith, practice and mission - the issue of climate change.

"Reducing the causes of climate change is essential to the life of faith. It is a way to love our neighbour and to steward the gift of creation."

Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury

Shrinking the Footprint is the Church of England's national environmental campaign. We are here to help you take action on the environment.

Amazing work is already taking place in churches across the country and we are well placed to share news, tips and resources.

Show the Love

This Valentine's Day, you have the power to show the love for the places, people, and life you want to protect from climate change. From 5th - 24th February join hundreds of thousands of people in one of the biggest climate movements yet. Show your love for God's creation by wearing a green heart and having a conversation with your church community, or with friends and neighbours about climate change. Get prepared by downloading the Christian resource and ordering your green heart stickers.

‘Creationtide’ or the ‘Season of Creation’ is the period in the annual church calendar (from 1st September to 4th October) dedicated to God as Creator and Sustainer of all life. View our Creationtide resources.

Plastic free Challenge

We have updated last year's plastic challenge for 2019. You can download it in Word or PDF format and see how much you can reduce your impact on God's creation this Lent.
