Community
At Manormead, we are proud of our beautiful, spacious and well-maintained garden which is mainly laid to lawn with flower beds and circular path which makes the garden easily accessible to residents. We have a dedicated room in which to store and charge mobility scooters for outside use. We have an attractive and comfortable communal lounge complete with grand piano, a dining room, a well-stocked library and an activities room as well as plenty of comfortable seating. Our well equipped laundry is available for residents to use at any time. We have a shop on-site which sells a small selection of non-perishable and grocery items. A local hairdresser, chiropodist and hearing aid support technician visit regularly to make use of our communal treatment room.
We have two guest rooms which, for a reasonable rate, are available for residents' guests as well as short stay breaks, including prospective residents.
Catering
We provide a cooked lunch which is served in our dining room however, we appreciate that you will often want to be out and about, or entertain in your flat, so we offer a flexible lunch service to capture the needs of those with independence at their heart. Choices are available from a varied menu and prepared on a daily basis in our five-star hygiene rated kitchen by our catering team. Lunch is regularly a time for the community to come together, to catch up and enjoy each other’s company.
If you have any allergies or special diets, these can be accommodated. We welcome feedback and ask for suggestions from residents to help decide on future menu choices. Guests are welcome to join residents at lunch for a small charge.
Support
We pride ourselves on striking the right balance in offering independent living, but support when you need it. Staff are on site seven days a week to offer you company, general assistance and support as required. Our aim is to do what we can to ensure the wellbeing of all who live at Manormead.
We do not offer any care or nursing services. However, our team can help residents with deciding on the right care package to meet needs and this can be delivered in the privacy of a residents’ own home by an external provider.
Our scheme is equipped with a 24-hour warden call system which can be used to call for emergency assistance from staff or the out of hours call centre. An integral fire alarm system ensures that the building is continuously monitored. A laundry service is available for a small additional charge if you find this task difficult.
Chapel Life
Our chapel is at the heart of the Manormead community with regular services held on a Sunday and Wednesday. Residents are fully involved with the running the chapel and volunteer their services through the chapel committee which benefit from strong links with our local Church and Guildford Diocese.
Social
Activities are generally organised by our residents and include film and games afternoons, a poetry group, bible studies, seated exercises and a book club as well as talks by both residents and visitors.
There’s plenty of opportunity for you to socialise but there is no pressure to participate if you prefer a quieter way of life. From time to time staff will also organise quizzes and social events for residents.
Our on-site shop is primarily intended to assist those who may struggle to go out to the local shops, but it also gives all residents a convenient opportunity to ‘top-up’ with essential grocery supplies while catching up with friends and staff. Coffee and mints served in the lounge after lunch is a popular regular event.
Flat layout
All of our flats have the same basic layout. The diagram below shows the layout with approximate dimensions although these can vary slightly depending on the location within the building.
There is plenty of built in storage in the hall (including an airing cupboard) as well as a good-sized wardrobe in the bedroom. The kitchen contains a ceramic hob, built in cooker and fridge (if required, there is space for an undercounter freezer). The bathroom contains a walk-in shower with seat, sink, toilet, low level bath and a bathroom cabinet.

Michael Jarratt, Manormead Resident
“Residents share richly varied experiences from their lives in Christian service and witness, alerting each other to evolving aspects of contemporary interpretation. The diligent, discreet, versatile and sensitive support of the staff team and chefs is a profound comfort at every stage. You don’t retire to Manormead, you gently re-tread your way to greater understanding of lived compassion and community.”
Peter Challen, Manormead Resident
“There is always someone friendly and sympathetic around, whether staff or resident, to share a problem or something that cheers you both up!”
